While short chapters and a simplistic (though overly so) storyline may have made this story more accessible to young readers, some of the words are much too complicated. "Old-speak" such as "I can seeth it be changed" will only confuse children who are struggling to read as it is. The story is too simple, and yet also rather dark. At times, it is unclear whether this is written for young children or older...and it misses the mark either way.
