Max Bertolini

I am not very familiar with this series. Yes, it is on Netflix and Henry Cavill fills the role of Geralt. That is about it. Any print books are completely unfamiliar. This volume of graphic adaptations is my first real exposure. It is, generally, a decent fantasy series. There seems to be some reasonably good world-building and fairly engaging characters. Geralt is definitely a character that resonates with a reader. This collection has some great artwork and stories that keep your interest. It is sometimes pretty simplistic but fun nevertheless. I wonder seriously about the frequent presence of bathing scenes. While I am never one to complain about artwork featuring beautiful, naked girls but they are in almost every story/chapter. After a time, they lose their impact and seem silly.… (mehr)

Like so many people, my first encounter with The Witcher franchise was through the Netflix TV show, which I loved. When my friend mentioned having this omnibus, I wanted to borrow it immediately, as I wasn't sure yet if I wanted to get into the novels (so many books!), and this seemed like a good middle ground.

I enjoyed this so much. It was great to read them during the readathon where I could just sit down and inhale the entire thing all at once, because that is exactly what I did. There are definitely some differences in the two adaptations (graphic novel vs. TV), but I liked getting to spend more time in this world with its dry humor, and the Witcher just trying to get along in a world with so many turned monstrous by their trauma and need for revenge.

I may get sucked into these novels someday.… (mehr)
