Anne Bishop (1) (1955–)

I loved how this book dove right into the complex and beautiful world! The world and characters were fascinating!

This is fantasy with a cast of interesting paranormal characters. The main character is a bit too saintly and childish even though we get a back story telling us why. Still, she's balanced out by the commanding personification of the seasons and a Medusa-like character. I think this is a series I'm going to get deeply involved in.

As with all anthologies I have read thus far in my life, some stories were wonderful, while others were not my taste. Many were good, if not especially memorable; some will stay with me whether I wish them to or not. In the end, I love Anne Bishop's writing and will definitely return to this anthology to reread my favorites. (I did especially enjoy the interpretation of "She Moved Through the Fair" - and not just because one of the characters was named Ellen.)

I adore The Others series, but Wild Country isn't as good as the rest of them. Of course I really liked it, but it didn't have the heart that the previous books did, especially the first 5.
