Robert Bittlestone

I ordered this book as soon as it was published and it arrived on the first day of the half term holiday. I thought perhaps I'd made a mistake in ordering it as at first glance it looked like a heavy, academic and dry tome. However, once I started reading it was hard to stop and in the end I had to ration myself to a few chapters a day as I had many things I needed to do in half term.
It is very readable being both erudite and entertaining and very, very convincing - at one point I leaped up and punched the air and shouted "Yes!".
I admit that I have been visiting Kefalonia for more than 20 years and have a house here so I have a particular interest but I believe this book would be accessible to anybody. Even if you have not visited the island, the many descriptions, photos and maps as well as the quality of the writing will bring the place and Homer's story alive for you.
