This is the third book of the series. It could stand alone but is better if you have read the other books. Now saying that I have not read the first book of the series. I enjoyed it. I have read a ecopy of Huber Hill and the Golden Staff of Cibola of the ARC. I
think it has some problems with the formatting which should be fixed by the time it is for sale. Those errors were distracting and I felt like I was translating it to English and having to figure out the missing letters in the words. So it was hard for me to get lost in the story.

Huber and his friends parents have been kidnapped by the Brotherhood of Coronado. They have to rescue their parents with the help of friends. The Brotherhood wants to still find the city of gold. Malia was kidnapped from her home and taken to Spain because she can read the ancient language describing the Lost City of Cibola. We met Malia in the second book too.

Most of this story happens in New Mexico. I was surprised that was the place of Cibola. I would have loved to see the city of Cibola as described in the book. But I would never make it through all the struggles and trials to find it.

Huber Hill and the Golden Staff of Cibola is an adventure full of action, puzzles, drama and hard choices. It is a modern treasure hunt with clues from the past. It reminds me of Indiana Jones type of treasure hunts. It is a clean read, sprinkled with a little history.

Their are two different bad guys. The Brotherhood of Coronado which they have hundreds of. The second is Juan Hernan Salazar. Both groups want the Golden Staff. It is a powerful weapon. It turns things and people into gold.

Their is also a lot good people that want to keep the staff out of evil men hands. The teenagers from Colorado are Huber, Hannah his sister, Scott his friend. Jessie and Alejandro they met in Spain.
Their is Eagle Claw who turned up in Spain and rescued them in book 2. Their are others who help them along the way. He is a Indian leader from Colorado.

It is a fun, adventure reading these books. I still want to go back and read book one of the series.
I was given this ebook to read and asked in return to give honest review of it by NetGalley and Cedar Fort.

Huber Hill and the Brotherhood of Cornado is sequal to Huber Hill and the Dead Man's Treasure. I also think thier will be more to come. I have not read Dead Man's Treasure but would like too. Brotherhood of Cornado can stand alone.
Huber Hill gets an email from Yesenia Ferrero who is 14 from Salamamca, Spain. She says her Grandfather Carlos Salazar knew his grandfather and he knows also who stole the Dead Man's Treasure. He can help them get the treasure back.
So they arrange for a contest abroad and three winners are picked. Huber, his sister Hannah and friend Scott won the contest. Everyone thought they cheated and of course it was rigged to get them over thier to get the treasure back.
Thier Spanish teacher Mr Mendoza has decided to come with them, The school and parents insist on it.
With the help of thier new friends Carlos & Pincho (inspired by Don Quixote and Sancho Panza), Alejandro, and Yesenia. They are on track to find out where the Brotherhood has the treasure and what their plan is.
Fausto, Matón, and Susurro are the three Kings of the Brotherhood of Cornado. They always wear a mask so they can't be identified. Thier are a lot of men in the Brotherhood of Cornado. They have kidnapped people and hurt them to find more treasure and keep them in the dungeon of a castle.
This novel is funny at times, its a adventure. They have to solve some riddles and go find some hidden keys before they can find the treasure. They have a hard time telling who is friend or foe at times.
Carlos the grandfather sometimes is very smart and tough then he can't remember what is going on. Sometimes he fakes being crazy. After a bull fighting contest he jumps in the ring with oxygen tank and takes shirt off and fights the security guards like they are the bull and he is matador.
Thier is a spy who is giving some information to Carlos and Pincho. He is the one that sends the teens all over Salamamca. The group stays in the University library break room at night after Carlos is in jail and the Brotherhood have kidnapped Mr. Mendoza.
It keeps your attention and I want to read the next novel in the series.
I was given this ebook to read in exchange for honest review from Netgalley.

I received an ecopy of this book from NetGalley in exchange for my honest review.

I have boys who are tweens and early teens and I'm always looking for good books for them to read; or rather, books that will interest them enough to get them to read! I have to say, Huber Hill and the Dead Man's Treasure fits the bill perfectly! It has action, a little sentiment, a little romance, and did I mention action!

Huber is having a really bad year. He's being bullied at school by a boy named Scott, he has no friends, and he's not athletic like his twin sister, Hannah, to his dad's regret. The only person who he is close to is his grandfather. Sadly, his grandfather dies, but he leaves Huber a box with a story and a treasure map. Huber decides that he is going to go on a quest to find the treasure in his grandfather's name. He has since become friends with his bully, Scott, so they decide to camp out on the mountain and find the treasure. Huber's sister, Hannah, overhears their plans and blackmails Huber into taking her along.

There are lots of trials and tribulations on their journey, least of which is a Spanish man, Juan Salazar, who wants the treasure for himself, and will do anything to get it. Let me tell you, this Juan is one scary dude! I wouldn't want to run into him on a dark mountain!

This story is very well written and is a quick read. Parents should be aware that it gets really scary about halfway through, but not so scary that I wouldn't let my sons read it. Just something to be aware of.

In summary, I can definitely recommend this as a great MG book, with a fast pace, and thrills and chills to keep anyone reading it on the edge of their seat :D

Huber Hill is a teenager who is not exactly what you would call one of the "cool" kids in school. In fact, he is bullied and picked on by his nemesis, Scott McCormick, who gave Huber the nickname, "Puber" during a 5th grade maturation assembly. Life is pretty miserable for Huber at school and at home where his parents can't seem to stop fighting everyday.

The only good thing in Huber's life is spending time with his ailing Grandpa Nick. When Grandpa Nick dies, Huber and his twin sister, Hannah are completely devastated. However, amongst the things that Grandpa Nick leaves them is treasure map left behind by the Spanish conquistadors, now called the Tesoro de los Muertos of Dead Man's Treasure. According to legend, it is cursed and no one has found the treasure and/or live to share about it.

That's when the adventure really begins. Huber embarks on a journey to find the treasure and prove that the tales his grandpa has shared with him are really true. Once the action starts, it is a very past-paced adventure that will definitely keep you on the edge of your seat until the very end. Without giving away too much, this book has all the ingredients you are looking for in an action/adventure book - a vicious villain, a journey to find lost treasure, old myths and legends, wild animals and unexpected twists and turns to keep you guessing what will happen next.

Overall:
I really enjoyed this book. It took a little bit to get going, but once it did, I couldn't put it down. It is going to be a great addition to my classroom library and my 5th graders (especially the boys) are going to love it.
