This concise who's who of heroes and legends was very enjoyable.
It's amazing how much information on the different gods and heroes the author managed to put in each few pages, and still make it an engaging read.
A nice, multicultural starting point for anybody who is interested in mythology.

I received a copy through Netgalley.

This story is about a group of "Invention Hunters" (people who travel around the world in search of the best inventions) who enter a music store, unaware of what instruments are. They pick up different instruments and make silly guesses about what inventions they are. A boy explains to the Invention Hunters what each instrument is and how it makes sounds, amplifies sounds, or transmits sounds. The book includes lots of information and helpful graphics on how sound works. The illustrations are fun and sound is taught in a way that would engage students. This would be a great story to use when doing a unit on sound.… (mehr)

This is an easy and fun way to read about how certain machines work. It is formatted as a combination of dialogue between characters and text boxes explaining the scientific ideas. Some of the characters make funny comments that students would enjoy as they are reading or being read to. I think this book would benefit students because it allows them to learn in detail about machines like a wheelbarrow, crane, toilet, and a few other things. Not only does it explain what these items are and the science behind how they function, but it also explains the history of how each item came to be what it is today. This is a book that could work well as a read aloud or students looking at by themselves. However, it can be a little text heavy when explaining the science behind the machinery.… (mehr)

The book Invention hunters :Discover how light works by Korwin Briggs is a fun book about different elements of light. It talks about what light is, and then dives deep into how light creates colors and rainbows using prisms and pigments. I liked this book. I thought it was a fun and enjoyable way to learn about light and had a lot of information and good science terms in it. I may use this in a classroom on a unit about light, however it has a lot of information so if I were to use this in a classroom I would maybe read a few pages from it to really narrow into the focus of the lesson. This would be a great introduction into an experiment on rainbows or colors.… (mehr)
