This memoir was very endearing and a lovely way to experience pre-independant Zimbabwe formerly Rhodesia through the eyes of a child growing up there. It spans 1950-69.. I enjoyed it.

Review: Talk To The Moon by Katlynn Brooke.

This novel is acceptably satisfying as the author has well written about South Africa’s environment and with descriptive scenery. This is the first book I have read by this author and I believe she did a wonderful job. The story is about human relationships and greed that leads to tragedy and murder. The author also writes about the roots and racial injustice throughout generations which set the story at a time of war of Independence. Katlynn Brooke captures a brief period of the Camelot Days as a Dominion of Britain as seen by a young naïve white girl.

The characters were well developed and the author created a saga style dialogue between a young girl, named Holly Morgan who works for a mission in historic days and how she kept a well descriptive diary throughout her life. The story starts out with a young man; Gabe Blanchard who hesitates reading the diaries of his Godmother’s to perceive information about his parents. These diaries were given to him from a caring person who held on to them for years and thought they would give him some insight about his parent’s background.

The story goes on at the time Gabe started reading page after page of his Godmother’s life. So, the story starts from his parent’s generation being narrated I believe by Holly Morgan. The story is captivating, intriguing and balanced between love, hate, deception, secrets, evil, suspense, and a murder or two within the historic time that Holly Morgan lived.
