Douglas Brunt

Genius and gifted inventor of the diesel engine.
Such an interesting story and well-told. I didn’t have time to finish it, but intend to purchase a copy so Bere and I can read it and discuss it.

First rate research and reporting. Covers many topics that intersect in this biography, including the history of oil, Europe and Germany, WW I and British military intelligence. Many layers strung together in perfect fashion.

I know a lot more about engines than I ever thought I would after finishing Douglas Brunt’s The Mysterious Case of Rudolf Diesel, and I enjoyed the connection he drew between the genius engineer and major historical events. At times, though, the book dragged with some redundancy as Brunt backtracked to other figures — mainly John D. Rockefeller and Kaiser Wilhelm II. Overall, an interesting look at the lead-up to WWI and the influence of a man mostly forgotten to history.
