In my opinion, I enjoyed reading “The Best Book of Ponies” and think that it is a good children’s book. The first reason why I like this book is because it had a table of contents. The first page of this book had a table of contents, which included a small illustration, a page number, and a little phrase, which told what those few pages would be about. For example, on page 24, it is named “Saddling up”, and the illustration shows a picture of a saddle. The next reason why I like this book is because, at the back end of the book, there included a Glossary with terms that the reader may not be familiar with, and their definition. For example, the reader may not understand what a halter is, and in the glossary it is described as “a piece of tack used on the pony’s head for catching, leading, and tying up.” The last reason why I liked this book was because the way the text is placed throughout the pages. The text is not just written as a usual story is, but instead is placed in different areas of the page with illustrations surrounding or above it. Some texts are bold, including the phrases seen from the table of contents. The main idea of this book is to learn all you would ever need to know about ponies!… (mehr)

This solid guide to horse care poses questions for consideration and presents various options for those who are new to horse keeping, or are considering undertaking horse ownership for the first time. Although it is probably intended more for novice horse owners, it has a lot of useful information for experienced horse folks, as well, and would probably be a profitable read for young adults and their parents before jumping in to the horse-owning pool.

Although definitely British in origin, there are lots of references to common practices in the United States, as well. Treatment of each topic isn't overly detailed, and may prompt additional questions you'll need to follow up elsewhere. This isn't a fluffy, cutesy, let's dress our ponies up in matching pink leggings type of book. Sober and serious, but still interesting, this is an excellent first stop on the way to owning your first horse.… (mehr)
