Val's best friend Kit joins Val and her daughter Emily, when they go to Door County, WI to visit Val's mother for Mother's Day. Murder abounds from the moment they arrive. And Kit's nosiness leads them to fear that Val's mother, Jean, may be involved or become a suspect.

The writing is clever yet smooth. Providing a flow which caught my interest from the very beginning. Well-developed main characters Val and Kit with a well rounded supporting cast keep the action centered. It was nice that the portrayal of the 45+ female was not a caricature, as so many are these days.

My only dislike was that the author wanted to individualize her two main characters by having one speak 'ya' instead of you when talking to her counterpart. I found it jarring that a sophisticated woman, well-dressed and well-educated would have such a yuk speech habit. But I do plan to purchase more Val & Kit Mysteries in the future.… (mehr)
