Burke, et.al. do an incredible job in presenting caffeine as a potential performance enhancing compound in competitive and non-competitive sports. Diving into this book was a great eye-opener, as I read this with my usual cup-o-joe in my hand for several mornings. The authors address not only the physiological effects, the downfalls (jitters, poor concentration, etc) but very importantly the ramifications in the anti-doping world of competition. I found the tables and lists of caffeine sources available in our groceries, supplements, and things we encounter in daily life a real eye opener. Four stars for a great handbook. There should be one in every pharmacy waiting area.… (mehr)

This book contains a reasonable methodology to infuse your workout with or without caffeine. The data, the ideas more-so, of course are peer-reviewable. While a little boost of Humanity's most popular psychoactive substance has been reasonable for me; maybe even a third serving half-way through a snow-sport's day, it is irrefutable in my experience to go easy on the java/white tea/yerba/mountain don't - while active. The book in question explains how it's done "properly." It isn't dull at all, reads well, and brings you through the motions. As someone who has researched and studied psycho-pharmacology, it is appreciated. This is THE book on the subject, second only to a qualified nutritionist/trainer. Less expensive too - if you can provide your own will power. As with all health issues, be sure to check with your medical doctors, better safe than sorry.… (mehr)

Caffeine for Sports Performance starts with an overview on caffeine and its effect on your body, a history of its use, moves through the different methods of consumption, and then provides a thorough explanation of its benefits and risks as a sports supplement. Thorough in its explanation, but not boring either.
