Über den Autor

John Burnett is Emeritus Professor, Brunel University. His research interests are mainly in nineteenth- and twentieth-century social history, especially in the history of food and drink, housing, unemployment, the cost and standard of living and working class autobiographical history. An excellent study of the diet of the English, concentrated on the last three centuries.

Useful toil; autobiographies of working people from… von John Burnett

Vivid accounts of ordinary peoples' lives from the Victorian period. Being diaries and reminiscences these bring to shocking life the everyday toil and difficulties of the working class during this time of increasing industrialisation, far more than the Reports of Inquiry etc on wwhich most histories are based.
