This book achieves its goal of teaching about an important woman from history. Since it presents the text in both English and Spanish it could be a useful teaching tool. The illustrations are quite colourful and will probably grab the attention of children.

Mama Tingo (otherwise known as Cristina Florinda Soriano Munoz)was a Dominican Republic heroine. Written in both English and Spanish, and with some very nice illustrations, this story is a introduction to Mama Tingo!

This story shares the life of a hero of the Dominican Republic, Cristina Florinda Soriano Munoz, who became known as Mama Tingo. She stood up for what she believed in and defended her land and the land of the people in her community. The bilingual text allows children to explore English and Spanish, side-by-side. The illustrations are simple and colorful to allow children to connect with the story.

The story was interesting and written in English and Spanish about a woman in the Dominican Republic who was willing to fight for the land and her people that had worked so hard to cultivate it. It was nicely illustrated as well. I didn't request this book and am not sure why I was sent it, but the book had a good message and would be good for children to learn about an important historical figure in the Dominican Republic.
