Interesting premise I wanted to explore but the plot threads weren't coalescing quickly enough to hold my attention.

It wasn't so much that I disliked the characters in The Bookseller but that I had no interest in any of them. They were … just … I don't even know. The story-telling felt disjointed, and was almost entirely lacking in engagement: there was no there there. I tried; I gave up; I tried again, I gave up again for good. The dog was the best part, and it was not nearly enough.

The usual disclaimer: I received this book via Netgalley for review.

I am at a bit of a loss about what I thought about this book. In one way I loved it, but then again I hated it, I can honestly say this has never happened before.

The story starts extremely slow, and for the first 20 odd chapters it felt like I was reading 3 separate books. Each paragraph of the book was about a different person, life, etc and they are all totally disconnected. To be honest, if I hadn't agreed to review the Bookseller, I probably would have stopped reading long before Chapter 20.

Then things change, the 3 stories start to overlap, and you begin to understand the story, which now flows at a reasonably good pace. Finally I find myself unable to put the book down.

The characters are well presented and believable. As is the story most of the time. Having said that events in the last 10 chapters or so were not believable. I read a lot of paranormal books, as you know if you read my blog regularly, and I do kinda believe in ghosts, so I usually find it easy to believe what is going on; not in The Bookseller, that was just to unbelievable.

Overall, not a bad book, but you will have a long read before it starts to make sense and gets interesting.

I had a hard time getting into this book and honestly I never really did. For me it's too slow at the start and try as I might I couldn't get into any of the characters. I got about 75% through the story and skipped to the end and still do not understand all the 5 stars and raves about it being scary. I received this book from the author for an honest review. It simply was not what I expected and not my cup of tea.
