"En nuestra casa hay un pasillo largo lleno de retratos de familia. Me encanta mirarlos. Y a mi padre le encanta contarme las historias que se esconden en cada uno de ellos: Está el tío Agus, el orgullo de la policía, o mi tía Doris, una gran bombera. Pero... ¿qué seré yo de mayor? Un padre cuenta a su hijo las más grandes hazañas de los miembros de su familia en sus respectivas profesiones mientras pasean entre los retratos de familia".
The art is really creative and fun, and my kids love books where the narrator and reader feud over how the story should go.
Though the pictures are simple and cartoonish, the content of this book could definitely scare little kids. The story is told from the perspective of a solitary soldier who believes his enemy is "not a human being," and that the enemy will "kill our families and our pets." Of course, the point of the book is that the enemy soldier has been told the same thing--that neither wants to kill, but both feel they must.
As a book that addresses a complex subject in a simple way, I would give it four stars, but I didn't like the ending. It was abrupt and unsatisfying. And I fear that because this is a picture book, it may not reach the older kids (I'd say at least 4th grade and up) who would get it.… (mehr)
