My Family's Hands is a heartwarming tale about a girl recollecting her memories of her close relatives and how they help her in life. Her mother, father, siblings, grandma, and grandpa each give her a unique aspect of love that helps nurture her into adulthood. Half way into the story it shows the girl now grown as a woman, reciprocating that love back at her relatives as a gesture of appreciation. The book itself is split into Spanish and English on each page. There are strong examples of similes throughout the story as she compares her relatives to a symbolic object in the South American culture (e.g. Mahogany tree represents strength which she compared to her dad). A good activity that kids can do is write personal letters to a close loved on how they appreciate what they do for them. It should reflect a real life letter layout and they will personally deliver it to their loved one for them to read.… (mehr)
