Kurzbiographie
The New York Times said in his obituary that Henry Carlisle's broad literary career included supporting oppressed writers, editing Camus, helping translate and publish Solzhenitsyn, and writing novels. It was as a book editor for Knopf that he helped oversee the publication of The Myth of Sisyphus by Albert Camus. He moved to Rinehart & Company, then joined with others to form a short-lived publishing house that specialized in the work of writers from the Western United States. He became a full-time author in 1961.
