These are the last words in the Codex Pal.Lat. 961: but if Prince Frederick, who was the beneficiary of this rare illuminated manuscript, was undoubtedly a chess lover, the Dominican monk Jacobus de Cessolis, the author of the Codex, makes use of the chess set and chessboard as metaphors of the social order.
The manuscript, achieved in Genoa in 1300, is best known as “Manual and book of good behavior for an irreproachable life conduct”.… (mehr)
