(ARC was provided to read and review.)

One day the monkey discovers a tiny rainbow high up in the trees. The monkey invites it to come with him and meet his friends and off they go, the rainbow holding on tight to the monkey's tail.
But as they swing from branch to branch the rainbow sucks up all the colors and when the two finally reach the ground, everything has turned grey. The rainbow has gobbled up all the beautiful colors and as a result has grown very big.
The monkey is very angry and the animals are very unhappy. The rainbow feels ashamed and so sad, that it bursts into tears. As the rainbow cries it becomes smaller again and the big tears splashing down are all the colors of a rainbow and the animals get their colors back.
But there's a catch......

The Greedy Rainbow is a cheerful picture book, with splendid colorful illustrations, which children will just love.
The story tells us, that sharing is better than being selfish and greedy. It's also a lot of fun for kids to learn the different colors ot the rainbow. It's a good idea, that step by step the colors are lost, the yellow feathers of the parrot turn grey, the red cherries turn grey, etc., which offers an excellent chance to engage the young reader as does the funny twist at the end of the book.

The last page comes with good suggestions for the next step, ideas for future questions and activities. What worked best with my group was: if you could change the color of one animal, what would it be and why? and then, to have them draw the animal.

Susan Chandler has created a beautiful story, which children will enjoy and share with their friends and it's an easy, fun way for them to learn their first basic colors.

This book is the well researched work of two associate professors of the University of Nevada at Reno. Through the years it took to interview numerous women, working in casinos, mostly in Las Vegas and some in Reno, the authors compiled a compelling recounting of individual interviews. The years-long successful fight to unionize casino work in Las Vegas is tracked in this very readable book.
