- Loretta Lynda Chekani was born in 1949, of Albanian ancestry. For her, the trouble started when she learned to write in first grade. Before then, she had been making up her own stories but now she knew how to write them down to share. In her teenage years, she continue to write letters, keep a journal, write poetry and even attempt the Great American Novel (still unfinished). She attended New England public schools, before she went off to college and earned an English degree from Clark University.
After graduation, she worked a variety of jobs at Clark including a part-time teaching post. She was also moonlighting as a video scriptwriter. It was there that she met a video producer who inspired her to write novels and marry him. Under her married name, Loretta Chase, has been publishing historical romance novels since 1987. Another of Chase's strong-willed, feisty heroines and a man who admires and can match her. The Duke of Blackwood has loved Alice since they were children, but he doesn't think he is worthy of her. When she determines that she needs to marry soon to protect herself from a vindictive cousin, Blackwood goes to London to protect her. Complications ensue.

Charming as all get out! I loved both leads and Cassandra's whole family. Framing this around Taming of the Shrew and championing the brave women who fought for autonomy when law and custom left them few avenues for action was great. When a seduction involves reading Mary Wolstencraft aloud that is my kind of book! My only problem was the sex scenes. The writing was otherwise good, but Chase went very purple as soon as the clothing came off. Others might object to the instalove, but that works fine for me. Lust and love don't have to be separate things, and leading with the first and having that bring people to the second is a-ok in my opinion… (mehr)

Funny and romantic, the book is filled with the witty banter and excellent romantic tension Chase is known for-- especially great since her heroines are just as intelligent and as capable as her heroes. If you are looking for a well-written historical, I think Chase is the go-to author. The Last Hellion may not be one of her best books, but it is a good, quick read.… (mehr)
