Chai tea is a very important drink in Kenya, problems are discussed and solutions found, families and friends bond over the tea. Nicky and Mamma Bo are very likable, fully fleshed characters, I felt like they were people that I personally knew by the end of the book. After a tragedy, Nicky's marriage crumbles under the strain, she decides to volunteer as a teacher at an orphanage in Kenya in order to give back and hopefully overcome her grief. Loved reading about Kenya and of course I fell in love with the children. Mamma Bo is a character that dispenses a great amount of hard won wisdom. I can;t imagine living in a country where the government dispenses electricity and water at their whim. The slums were heartbreaking but despite that families try to stay together, though that does not always happen, This is a very likable book, that ends with a great deal of hope.
