A fine if depressing photo story of an aging and declining small Oregon town in the wake of the end of days for gyppo logging.

Some funny thoughts about Oregon. Some dated. Some made me wonder if the author was really an Oregonian. (What is with all the umbrellas? Did they use more umbrellas back in '77, or does he not realize native Oregonians don't use umbrellas?)
Often the thoughts emphasize that Oregon doesn't like tourists. ("You'll find Oregonians friendly... when you meet them vacationing in West Yellowstone." "We were going to build a wall around the state of Oregon... but with our luck it would become a tourist attraction.") So, maybe Mr. Clouiter just wants to convince people not to visit Oregon... and I'm okay with that.
It's a quick read, and if all the pictures hadn't had a guy in dressed in rain gear, carrying an umbrella in a foot of water, it might have gotten three stars.

If you're an Oregonian, you'll definitely get this book and understand it. If not, it may just be one of those "you had to be there" stories. I really enjoyed it. Although it is a bit outdated, most of the stereotypes still apply.
