Charles R Codman

An unexpectedly witty, well-written, literate book written by Charles Codman, a man who ended his military career as the ADC of General Patton in WWII. Awarded a Silver Star by General Pershing for valor as a pilot in WWI, he went on to accrue many other decorations for his service in WWII first as interpreter, then as liaison officer from Western Task Force to the Protectorate of Morocco and finally as ADC to General Patton. Between wars he and his wife spent a great deal of time in France buying wines commercially and he knew the language and culture as his own. He was a consummate diplomat which was invaluable in his role with Patton. This book was compiled from letters he wrote to his wife from 1942-1945 giving a picture of daily life in exotic and dangerous places as well as an intimate picture of Patton's personality, style and fanatic devotion to war.… (mehr)
