My First DVD is a compilation of four separate VHS cassettes (Rhymin’ Time!, Bedtime, Storytime!, Singing Time!) each based on one of the four similarly titled Kay Chorao books The Baby’s Lap Book (1977), The Baby’s Bedtime Book (1984), The Baby’s Story Book (1985), and The Baby’s Good Morning Book (1986). Each of the DVD’s four sections are animated faithfully to match the beautiful illustrations in Chorao’s books, and the performers chosen (Judy Collins, Phylicia Rashad, and Arlo Guthrie) masterfully sing or narrate a total of 36 nursery rhymes, 11 stories, 18 poem-songs, and 17 lullabies. The musical composition for Singing Time! and Bedtime compliments perfectly Collins’ beautiful folk music vocals. Rashad performs Rhymin’ Time! with Blues and Jazz brilliance, and Arlo Gutherie’s playful repertoire of voices qualify him to tell an assortment of stories and fables. My First DVD! straddles formats and genres and holds its own successfully against Jim Weis’s masterful storytelling or the fun music and lyrics of Snacktime (2008). My First DVD! can be enjoyed by children age six-months to six-years.… (mehr)
