Amazing recipes. The best soda bread I've ever eaten, and things I had never heard of: the Shin-and-Guinness stew is incredible (and easy to improvise upon: I have no idea what the author would have thought of replacing the beef with lamb and the prunes with dried cherries, but, yum!) and the brotchan roy, which is a leek soup thickened with toasted oatmeal, sounds odd to most Americans but is a wonderful winter meal.

This book is a delight to behold (and even more to eat the recipes out of!) The pictures really take you to a country kitchen in Ireland (complete with peat burning in the fire.) The recipes are superb, although, the ingredients can be hard to dig up for some of the dishes. When you read this book your mouth will water!
