This book is about a pig who dreams of being a different animal and ends up learning how to love himself. I also enjoy the humor in this book, but the main reason I would include it in my classroom is it's message--to love yourself. Although this message could be shared with all ages, I would read it to grades PreK-1st in a lesson on self-confidence.

This is a story of a pig that feels his life is boring. So he begins to try to be anything but a pig. He tries to be a giraffe, zebra, kangaroo, and a parrot. He discovers he can't really fly. Then he realizes that being a pig is not so bad after all. The illustrations will spark conversation. This would be great as a read aloud.
Ages- K-3rd grade
Media- Gouache
Critique of Genre- This is a fantasy as the characters have human characteristics.

Summary
Pig is feeling bored. Every animal pig encounters it decides to become that animal. All of pig’s clever ideas fail. After pig falls into a puddle of mud it realizes being a pig is best.

Personal Reflection
I work in a school system and I see a lot of children try to become someone they are not. They change their behavior and looks to impress their friends. This book reminds me of the times we have tried to change who I am to impress others.

Classroom Extension Ideas:
1.The students can draw a picture of who they want to be.
2.The students can make a list of why they are great.
3.In the classroom, we can discuss why it is best to be ourselves and we can share our best qualities with the students.
