Robert Crawford's collections of poetry include A Scottish Assembly (1990) and Full Volume (2008). His biography of Burns, The Bard (2009), won the Saltire Scottish Book of the Year Award. His other books include Scotland's Books (2007) and On Glasgow and Edinburgh (2013). Equally deft is the author's sensitive yet smart portrait of the extremely complicated figure of Vivienne Eliot, one-half of one of the most interesting marriages in literary history. Vivienne is a difficult figure to capture and Crawford succeeds by never trying to pin her down as villain, vixen or witch.
