I'd heard that this book had the best short introduction to the ideas of Bernard Lonergan. It has! But even more important, it introduced me to the philosophy of John Macmurray, which has been the major influence on all my subsequent thinking.

The book is an introduction to the thought of three people: the Scottish philosopher John Macmurray, the Catholic theologian Bernard Lonergan, and the American theologian James Fowler and his stages of faith model. There are two chapters for each: an overview of their life, and an exceptionally lucid introduction to their ideas. A final chapter draws parallels between the work of all three.
