At the beginning of the story I wasn't sure I was going to enjoy it, but it slowly started pulling me in, like the Sirens song, I could not pull away from the story until I knew how it ended. But the pull did not end with the book, I still long to know if Arion kisses Logan? If Lilah tried to deepen Arion? Does her mom ever return....All the unanswered questions ... Overall I enjoyed this story.

Overall I enjoyed this story.

This book was a fun new twist on YA fantasy, featuring mermaids, dark scary mermaids, as both villains and heroes. The teen voices felt well-executed, light and casual, but with real issues and worries. The setting was gorgeous, actually reminding me of my visits to Maine. I think the door is open to sequels, and I will be interested to sample more of the engaging story.

This book switches back and forth between the male and female protagonists too often. I don't know how realistic some of the characterizations of drug use, PTSD, and depression are but we didn't get to know the main characters enough before all these horrible things happen and they weren't that likable to begin with so I struggled to like and connect with them through their struggles or really see how much they grow from them.
