Kurzbiographie
After his art studies in Antwerp, Belgium, Dahlqvist worked over the years for companies of a highly different nature: design, promotion, translation, DTP, IT, and shipping. These experiences create a source of information that is intertwined in his novels. He has also worked as a ghostwriter. Another side of Dahlqvist is his interest in the past, delving into research for technical-historical books. In his novels and short stories, Dahlqvist mixes reality, fiction, and memories. The reality is found in ordinary, everyday events, in conversations, and chat sessions with people of all ages. All this material is mixed with a dose of fiction so the original facts become different, more beautiful and intriguing. The countless trips Dahlqvist embarks on also form a great source to describe all kinds of situations and environments. Dahlqvist has visited Austria, Germany, France, Scandinavia, New Zealand, Scotland, and Canadian regions like Newfoundland, Nova Scotia, British Columbia, and Yukon. In the United States, he’s explored Alaska, Nevada, Arizona, California, and Utah. He also wandered around islands, which by chance all start with the letter M: Madeira, Malta, Sao Miguel (Azores) and Mikonos.

The author has done an impressive amount of research by accessing over 400-years of documents to weave together his genealogy into a true story. This story covers a French Colonial Family and their ancestors’ influence on the tug-of-wars occurring worldwide, in politics, various social issues, and family dynamics during this time span. The book is an enjoyable read. Compliments to the author for synthesizing 400-years of facts into a cohesive story.

Zeer vlot geschreven.

Story of a young boy who isolates himself after having been in a car accident. When he meets another boy, Dahl, he slowly abandons his self-imposed isolation.
I enjoyed this story, the characters are interesting and I liked the way the story switches between the boys past and his present situation, gradually giving you a better understanding of why he lives in isolation like this.
I did feel that the main character, Andreas, sometimes seems a bit young for his sixteen years. For instance, I would personally think a sixteen-year-old would be more aware of his parents' issues and what causes those issues. I also think the story could have been worked out more extensively. It's a very short novel, but it contains a lot of interesting things and I felt it would have been nice if the story would have been longer.
All in all, an enjoyable read, but definitely could be improved.

(mehr)
