Paula vW. Dail takes an in-depth look at the causes and cycles of poverty in the US. She discusses specific American policies on poverty and how they affect American families and women. I really liked her definition of poverty: “Poverty is not just economic, it is an all encompassing way of life defined by many characteristics, including a dearth of food, clothing, shelter, and healthcare.” She discusses many different aspects of poverty including the lack of poor women’s representation in politics, issues in education, domestic abuse, healthcare, and inequality in the workplace. She also puts faces to the statistics by telling real women’s stories. This book is a real eye opener and I would highly recommend it to anyone interested in women’s studies or American politics on poverty.… (mehr)
