First, let me say I was raised Catholic, and I'm a practicing Pagan. My interest was definitely peaked by the blurb, having grown up rather familiar with the major biblical stories. I thought Darling handled it all wonderfully, bringing new life and perspective to familiar characters from (mostly) Biblical myth. If you aren't Christian, chances are, you'll love this. If you are, I suggest going in with an open mind. I definitely intend to check out more of Darling's work in the future!

I was immediately drawn to the story of the book .At first it was interesting, getting to learn all the characters and trying to figure out the little mystery, but as the book progressed i found myself enjoying it less. The numerous missing words throughout, errors etc became quite annoying after a while, and Alena as a main character is not very likeable. One moment she's badass and the next one she's cowering in corners terrified. The sex scenes were not great either. I finished it because i did like the story itself, just the other things spoiled it for me.… (mehr)

This book reads like an episode of House, complete with Richard Mason, a doctor with a sharp tongue, cane and addiction to pain killers (seriously straight out of the TV Show House). I loved that the author gave us glimpses of Hannah’s internal frustration as the doctors dug to unravel her diagnoses’ past. I did not expect myself to enjoy this book as much as I did. I am not typically a fan of books within a series, but this book certainly held its own as it easily could have been a standalone novel, regardless I look forward to more books in the series, some of which are out now.

In this second title in the Sister Christian series, Hannah is slowly recovering from the traumatic brain and cardiac surgeries that ended the first book. Her recovery is hampered by more secrets that are bubbling to the surface. Things come to a head during a violent storm when a series of evens sends Hannah out into the gale and her brother Rick decides on a course of action that could free her from the past or send her further back into herself.

The relationship between Hannah and Rick continues to be the key drawing point. Hannah is a cranky patient and Rick a stubborn caregiver. The slow reveal of the true horror of Hannah's childhood seems authentic and the therapeutic gamble of Rick's is dramatic and wrenching. Recommended.… (mehr)
