This book has been on various want lists of mine for years, and having finally bought it last year, was it worth it? On the whole, yes, particularly since I wasn't kidding myself that I was buying anything more than a book of pretty images. As for being a history of the marque, that's more a question of something is better than nothing. Being an image collection the author, understandably, mostly dwells on the evolution of De Soto styling; particularly the contributions of Virgil Exner. Where this book is weak is the whole question of the rise and fall of the American marketing system of cars at closely graduated price points for everyone in the market for a new car, as that had everything to do with the introduction of the marque in the first place, and its ultimate demise.… (mehr)
