Part crime novel, Above All Men is the story of war veteran David Parrish's fight to keep his family and farm together in a future Midwest marred by drought and the murder of a local child. Oh, and Lydia Davis (!!) has this to say about this impressive first novel:
“Above All Men does not suffer fools gladly. It is narrated in concise language representative of the protagonist’s black-or-white moral compass, in a bleak but restless Midwest that is as much a character as any person. Think pre-apocalyptic Atticus Finch.”
Shonkwiler reads from and signs Above All Men in the Reading Room Friday, September 19th at 7 PM.
Local authors Justin Lawrence Daugherty and Will Donnelly will join Shonkwiler for this exciting evening of fiction.
Justin Lawrence Daugherty lives in Atlanta and is the author of Whatever Don’t Drown Will Always Rise (Passenger Side Books, 2013), the Managing/Founding Editor of Sundog Lit, and the co-founder of Cartridge Lit and Jellyfish Highway Press.
Will Donnelly’s fiction has appeared or is forthcoming in Hobart, PANK, Five Chapters, and elsewhere. He’s an assistant professor of English, Rhetoric, and Writing at Berry College and is an associate editor for Juked.
