Jack is the president for Kings of Mayhem MC and he has always been a part of Bronte’s life for a long time because she was best friend’s with his younger brother. Jack is 15 years older than her; tragedy turned his life upside down, and now he is out for vengeance yet when Bronte returns home, he knows he will do anything to keep her safe. Bronte has always been in love with Jack but she’s afraid he will only see her as a child and nothing more. When danger comes looking for her Jack knows he must protect her at all costs, but he must keep her at a distance. The push, pull, and fight of attraction becomes too much, and Jack must once and for all decide to either follow his heart or fight for a chance with Bronte. This book was suspenseful, heartbreaking, and I really loved the characters. I normally don’t read many age gap romances finding one of the characters immature, but this story had me gripped with twists at the end that had my mouth hanging open in shock. I will read more from The Kings of Mayhem.… (mehr)

Indy was a child who couldn't get over the past! She ruined the book with her fears, lying, and pushing Cade away all the time. There is very little sexy times going on in this book. I felt bad for Cade because his dad caused all the turmoil. I felt Indy just kept blaming him without ever accepting the dad's part in all of it. Cade was a bit of a victim too. I ended up skimming the last 1/3.

Tag(s): Romance, Contemporary

Favorite Quote(s):
"Get in and get out. No distractions. That was the plan."
― "Twelve years of silence filled the space between us. Loudly."
― “It rips my heart out to know that the one thing I couldn’t protect you from was me.”
― “If I thought for one moment you wanted to kiss me, Indy, then I’d spend the rest of my life kissing just you.”
― “Tell me how I let you go without it killing me and I will,” he said, his voice rising over the rain. “Tell me how I live without you without it destroying me.”
Overall Opinion:
Falling for the girl next door is never easy especially when a dire mistake changes the lives of Indigo and Cade forever. The opening sequence left me on the edge of my seat. It was an unexpected surprise that helped showcase the close, heartwarming relationship between the two childhood friends turned lovers. The narrative alternative between the heroine and hero from past to present, and was a great way to present how and when they fell in love, and most importantly, how it all fell apart. The overall premise is about second chances and learning to forgive.

The story follows the main heroine journey back home. With the sudden passing of Indigo estranged father, she finds herself back home in Mississippi for his funeral after running away from all whom she loved: family, friends and Cale. Lingering feelings, accidental touches and misunderstandings push and pulled the hero and heroine together. Knowing their days together are numbered, Cale is doing everything in his power to gain her forgiveness and despite the twelve long years of silence, she has always been his endgame. It has always been her. Only her. And he's ready to show that to her.

The general flow and pace of the story was ideal, the characters were likeable and nothing seemed forced. There is definitely more to the story than meets the eye and the only negative I can point out is that I really had wished the writer would have explained the reason behind Cale's father actions and why he caused the rifted between the main characters. Maybe he was just being a dick which is a trend I've noticed from a lot of the older secondary characters in the story minus grandma because she's badass or is there an actually reason behind everything? Maybe I'm just looking way too much into it!

Overall, with this being the first Penny Dee novel and book one of the “Kings of Mayhem” series I've read, I am highly impressed. I look forward to reading more of her works and the upcoming sequel of this fantastic book! Additional to that, the novel ended in a high note with an unexpected cliffhanger and I can't wait to read what happens next!

Title: Come Undone: A Hockey Romance
Author(s): Penny Dee
Character(s):
Mackenzie Eden: 25 years old, Blonde, Brown Eyed
Jake Pennington: 29 years old, Blue Eyed
Setting: New York City, New York
Tag(s): Romance, Contemporary, Sports
Content Rating: R
POV: Alternates between Heroine/Hero
Smexy Level: Hot
Favorite Quote(s):
― “It’s amazing what you can do when someone else believes in you.”
― “Sometimes the bad things that happen to us put us on the right path toward the best things that happen to us.”
― “Don’t kid yourself, Z. We made love. And it changed everything.”
― “The professional in me wanted to make him a cup of coffee, sit him down, and tell him to pull his shit together. But the bad girl in me wanted to fuck with him a little.”
Overall Opinion:
First losing his family then his best friend, Jake finds his world crashing down and now all he can hold on to is a half-empty bottle of bourbon. Then just when he's drowning his sorrows at a local bar, Mackenzie struts in and knocks the breath out of him, proclaiming that she's his new sports agent. Chasing after him for a chance to help him make a comeback, she follows him to his grandfathers logged cabin in which they both get snowed in after getting hit by a winter snow storm. For four long days, sexual tension rises and the duo find it more than difficult to denied the growing attraction. And just before they know what hit them, an unlikely romance ensues.

Once I saw Penny Dee name on the cover, I jumped for joy to read another series by the talented author. She has always had a way with words and is easily able to create a solid group of characters that anyone is able to relate to. The real life struggles of the lead characters brought a different element to the book, arising readers emotions and allowing them to wish for their happily ever after. Mackenzie and Jake were the missing puzzle piece for each other and I have loved how they were able to encourage one other to overcome their past struggles. Their witty banter had me dying and their strong connection made me swoon. Moreover, like any typical relationship, there are some highs and lows yet Mackenzie and Jake are able to persevere and create a lasting love. Once again, Penny Dee blew me out of the water with this captivating sports romance series.
