The Briary-bush; a novel von Floyd Dell
An easy-going novel of intellectuals in and around HydePark, Chicago about a hundred years ago. I read it ages ago out of curiosity about Dell, who had some praiseworthy Left associations. Honestly there wasn't much of that in the story, nor honestly, was there a whole lot more about love and marriage, which are the nominal themes of the book. Still, the picture of a now long-vanished Chicago was very agreeable to me, though I wonder whether I would still find it so now, in light of subsequent knowledge and experience. Hmmm.… (mehr)
