This Woman's Work von Julie Delporte
The form is beautiful and interesting and many-layered. The content, less so. It's very heterosexual and second-wave up in here, despite lots of ruminations about [a:Tove Jansson|45230|Tove Jansson|https://images.gr-assets.com/authors/1419249529p2/45230.jpg].
“¿A qué edad empecé a sentirme engañada por ser mujer?”. Esta pregunta inicial articula Asuntos de mujeres, una reflexión sobre el género y la creatividad que se convierte, a través de sus páginas, en un verdadero ensayo autobiográfico de aprendizaje feminista en el que lo íntimo resuena en el aspecto social.
Julie Delporte se inspira en la figura de Tove Jansson, creadora de los Mumins, a quien en un principio estaba dedicado el libro, para empezar a cuestionarse como mujer y a cuestionar también el lugar que ocupan ellas en el mundo, expresando sus creencias, sus dudas y sus recuerdos con sinceridad y sin concesiones, y tratando de dotarlos de sentido. The colored pencil and watercolor art (with a smattering of pencil) created such beautiful tones in this book. I would read more Delporte just for that. At first I felt a little annoyed by the narrator's malaise and paranoia, but as the book progressed, I began to sympathize more with the alienation that seems perhaps especially relevant to people in my weird little sliver of a not-quite-Gen-X, not-quite-Millennial generation.
This is her best work thus far, she is improving in terms of structure/narrative while deepening those beautiful vulnerable aspects of her work...the references to Tove Jannson, Winona Ryder as Jo March and a whole host of other woman creators was really relatable and touching
