Rezensionen

This is a real pageturner (and with nearly thousand of them, there's quite a lot of turning to do...), a book on the hunt of a Libyan terrorist. There's two story lines really: One of them is featuring two members of the (fictional) Anti Terrorist Task Force, John Corey and Kate Mayfield, which makes for good fun (Corey is a cynical and sometimes really funny narrator), but also for a lot of insights concerning the work of CIA, FBI, NYPD, Port Authorities etc., so that in the end you get the impression that all these agencies are more often playing their own game instead of cooperating with each other (especially the CIA, if you can believe deMille). The second storyline features the Libyan terrorist Asad Khalil and his revenge mission in the USA for the bombing of a military compound near Tripoli in 1986, and these sequences offer interesting views from the other side of the equation. Not that you could ever sympathize with Khalil, but his motives (amd thus the motives of terrorists in general) become clearer. The only thing that disappointed me was the ending, which was anti-climactic, though probably making once more the points that DeMille wanted to make: that there are many bad guys in this fight, some of them can even be American, and the war against terrorism might never be won.… (mehr)
