Color Me Impressed

Broken Grace opens with the main character, Grace, racing away from something that has her terrified. She views another car behind her in her rear-view mirror just before losing control on an icy road and crashing. She wakes up in the hospital with no memory of her past. She is soon informed that her boyfriend was killed the morning of her crash, and detectives are working to find out who is behind the murder. Could it be Grace? Could it be a robbery gone wrong?

I would love to read more thrillers like this. Grace is a likable character and you really feel for her as she tries to piece her memories back together as she encounters people from her past. The detectives investigating the case are clichés but it seems like that is always the case, but the cast of characters overall are well developed and believable. The only person I don’t like is her sister she has creepy written all over her from the first time the reader meets her.

The action moves along at a steady pace. This is not an edge of your seat thriller, but the story stays on task at all times so I never lost interest in the story at all. The author did a good job of creating characters with just enough reason to want Grace's boyfriend dead to keep the reader guessing all the way through the story. I love sitting and thinking who did what and guessing who did what crime in the story. Just as I suspected the story was wrapping itself up, the twists came that I didn't expect. The ending took a 3.5-star book and made it 4 stars! Excellent story! I will for sure be looking for more books by this author I am always on the hunt for new thrillers.

This book turned out to be different than I expected but it was still a good read. Most of the “secrets” were predictable but there were still a few surprises. There was so much drama that I felt like I was reading a soap opera but Brooklyn was such a likable character that I was compelled to keep reading.

I received a free copy from netgalley in exchange for an honest review.

Thomas Mercer
4 / 5

Grace Abbott knows she shouldn be speeding on the icy roads of southwest Michigan, but the headlights behind her are rapidly approaching behind her.....Grace panics and runs off the road.
Grace survives, but wakes up in a hospital with a traumatic brain injury and no memory of her past, and everyone seems reluctant to share with her any details of her past.
Left in the care of her sister, Lisa, they return to a secluded farmhouse to recover-soon the police arrive and want to talk to Grace about the murder of her boyfriend. With no memories and no alibi, Grace falls under suspicion,
Could Grace be guilty...is she capable of murder?
Graces frustrations and memory flashes are masterfully done, the characters weave a intriguing mystique but the double twist ending was fantastic.
Tense, fast-paced twister, a thriller that is exciting and riveting.

This book had me on the edge of my seat from beginning to end. I am usually able to figure out the "culprit" in books like these fairly early, but this one had me guessing for almost half of the book. By the time I narrowed in on a suspect, I was only partially right... and then I was still wrong. With a twist ending that contained an even bigger twist, this "whodunit" book had me staying up late at night and putting responsibilities on the back-burner. Definitely recommend this for anyone wanting a murder mystery that has you guessing up until the very end where you ultimately end up, wrong.… (mehr)
