During the break of England, a less privileged band with Revolutionary ranks was determined to attain equal political rights for all adult males and a government in which the will of the majority of citizens would prevail. The reforms were countered by men of substance who saw rather a liberty that left the existing social system unchanged. This tension is addressed by Douglass as he studies the case of the various colonies in turn. The writing style is rather turgid and is written in acadamese although the actual content is often worthwhile.… (mehr)
