Michigan Off the Beaten Path®: Discover Your Fun… von Jim Dufresne
Some valuable information, but if you're interested in going to any of these places, make sure you fact-check. For a recent revision of this book, there are a few errors that I found and it's possible there are more. (For example: the Detroit Zoo hasn't had snowy owls in its Arctic Ring of Life exhibit since shortly after it first opened. Also, the buses back across the Mackinac Bridge aren't usually free when doing the Labor Day Bridge Walk, but cost a few dollars.)
I was happy to find this book because it has better maps than the official State of Michigan brochures provided at the park gates. (1989 edition). By "better" I mean that rather than a detailed map of campground A and a detailed map of campground B, it shows the park with the relative locations of campgrounds A, B, group camping, and all amenities depicted. It provides a lot of information about park trails as well. again more complete information than most brochures. Mine is nearly 30 years out of date, but appears valid and useful to what I remember of the parks we've camped in over the past five years. A good guide to one of hte most beautiful places on earth. The quality of the publication could have been better with larger print so that hikers could read the page in different lights and weathers - a small point but it has important consequences for usage!
