2200 History of Nevada Second Edition, Revised, by Russell R. Elliott with the assistance of William D. Rowley (read 29 Mar 1989) Because I so enjoyed The History of North Dakota I read this book. It was not as good. Nevada was a weird and exciting place from 1860 to 1900, but 20th century Nevada did not seem too interesting. In fact, the later chapters, even though they devoted full attention to the political history, seemed humdrum.

3057 Servant of Power: A Political Biography of Senator William M. Stewart, by Russell R. Elliott (read 1 Mar 1998) This is a well-written biography of one of the first two senators from Nevada, he having served in the U.S. Senate from Feb 1,1865 to Mar 3, 1875, and again from Mar 4, 1887 to Mar 3,1905. Stewart was an interesting person, though not too honest. He served the Southern Pacific R.R. carefully, and was a big silver senator when silver was a hot topic.
