This was an interesting mystery that will keep you hooked. My biggest complaint is at times the descriptions were just too heavy - they weighed down the story instead of enhancing it. Pierce and Soliz are interesting characters, and seem like a bit of an odd pairing, which made watching them solve the mystery more interesting. The characters (including the murderer) are well fleshed out, and feel like they could easily be real people. A must read for murder mystery lovers that enjoy odd detective duos.… (mehr)

The smell hit Detective Rob Soliz as soon as he left his car. It did not prepare him for the murder scene he was about to encounter - it was too much for even seasoned police force veterans like himself and Frank Pierce to take in. It was the bloody newspaper clipping at the scene that made Frank’s blood run cold. Battling against bureaucratic turf wars, the two detectives must race against time to find the monster responsible.
This book had me hooked from the start. I found it difficult to put down, eager to see how Pierce and Soliz would solve the case. Would they figure it out it time before the person killed again? I liked that Enmon added some background on the killer, adding some depth to that character. The descriptions of the crime scene were well done, not excessively detailed to border on grotesque. The book does reference some events from a prior book, so it may be a good idea to read that book first, but it is not necessary to enjoy this story. I highly recommend this book to anyone that likes true crime books or thrillers.

I love reading murder mysteries! This book has everything you would expect in a mystery novel.
I was hooked (and disgusted) from the start. The author described the scene of the murder so vividly. The comrades between Frank & Rob speaks volumes, they aren't just partners but close friends as well.
If I had to point out one small flaw it would be about how the book ended. Usually an epilogue wraps things up but this abruptly stops right after what he remembered about his old partner. I guess I was expecting more. When did he go home? How was Rob? etc.

I was delightfully surprised to find out this book is part of a series so I'll definitely be reading the other ones. I'm hoping the questions I have will be answered in future books… (mehr)

Very enjoyable read. Liked the diverse characters in the book, the Detectives were well done, not perfect people and very relatable.
Descriptions of the crime scenes were nicely done too, enough detail without being overkill or twisted.
I enjoyed the local slang used and had no clue what an ice house was until reading this book, it was well enough written that it did not pull me out of the story which has happened in other books.
Perry, as a killer, he had that haunting quality about him and the lack of empathy. Deadly charming would be a good way to describe him.
This will be great fall rainy day read to get lost in.… (mehr)
