Story regaling the escape of the little old lady serial killer. She's fast and she thinks she is above all others, whether cooking, cleaning or planning. She knows that she was the best worker, she never got ahead because others were jealous of her. She is THE best machine knitter though no knitting circle wants her and so forth. Because of her age she escapes out a bathroom window, but now she has embarrassed the police woman guarding her - Barbara takes it personally. This was a fun and light-hearted story about a serial-knitting murderess. Hilda Hopkins takes in 'paying guests' at her home and does away with them. It's not a murder mystery - the police know she's done it and just want to arrest her but she's a wily old pensioner and manages to slip out of their fingers. The novel is based around the 'catch me if you can' game - how Hilda manages to keep a step ahead of the police and how the police manage to track her. It's a delightful character study which is a very quick read. I liked that actually there were some more messages in it - almost every victim of Hopkins' crimes had either written their pin numbers down somewhere easily accessible, or left a key under the flowerpot in the garden, or allowed their computer to remember passwords so that anyone could log in. Hopkins is not just guilty of murder... and the novel shows how easy it is to become blase about security when actually one really should be more careful. A light-hearted and amusing diversion that I felt was a good break from heavier reads.… (mehr)
