Although it originated in China, kung fu is now one of the most popular martial arts in the West. This book examines the history and philosophy behind this ancient martial art and sutdies its application as a modern combat sport.

Eddie Ferrie gives advice on how to get started, then explains the basic punching and kicking technques before exploring more complex combinations. All techniques are described in detail and illustrated with step-by-step photographs. Furher sections on combat and self-defence, plus a glossary of terms, make this a comprehensive study of kung fu that will appeal to all martial arts practitioners.

Eddie Ferrie has practiced a number of martial arts, and his extensive experience includes training in Wing Chun kung fu, taekwondo, karate, ju-jitsu and judo, in which he is a 3rd dan and a BJA Senior Coach.

A writer and photographer, Eddie Ferrie contributes marital arts articles to many national and international news papers and magazines, and has written several books, including Taekwondo and Ju-jitsu, also published by Crowood.
