these were fancier/more labor intensive than I ever care to make, but it looks like she put some effort into developing a gluten-free version of her biscuit/empanada dough that I haven't tried yet, but which might have been just what I was looking for. That is the only GF recipe in the bunch, however, so people with this dietary restriction should probably borrow from the library rather than purchase.

Since I love to cook and bake, and have made doughnuts in the past, I thought I'd look and see if this book has anything new. Not only does it have what's listed above, but there are also recipes for doughnuts that are gluten-free (although I have to admit I haven't made those). But it's there for those who haven't been able to find recipes before.

To tell the truth, yes, it's easier to just go and purchase doughnuts from a store; but you're going to get ones that have tons of preservatives in them and there's no guarantee that you won't find ones that don't taste like what they are - out of a box. While many of these recipes take time and effort, the end result is you're going to get a very nice doughnut indeed with great taste. Recommended.… (mehr)

Doughnuts by Lara Feroni

YUM! Guess what I want right now? DOUGHNUTS! With recipes that range from simple to complex and sweet to savory there are recipes for children, adults, vegans, gluten-intolerant and just those looking for something from another country there is no doubt in my mind that there is something for everyone who has a sweet tooth.

I am in awe and if still making doughnuts for children, or not worried about calories, I would snap this book up in a heartbeat. It has a variety of doughs, glazes and flavorings that left my mouth watering. I would love to try a few of these recipes and serve them to friends and just may at some point in the future. I do have a mini-donut maker and donut pans to put into the oven. Now, which recipe should I try first?

Thank you to NetGalley and Sasquatch Books for the ARC – This is my honest review.

Craving Thin Mints, Hot Pockets, or even Twinkies, but don't want all the preservatives, food dyes, and other mysterious ingredients? This cookbook is packed full of recipes for homemade versions of your favorite snacks you ate as a kid. They are healthier, homemade versions of all those snacks you remember craving. What I appreciated the most about this cookbook was that the author had notes for every recipe on how to make it gluten-free and/or vegan, so soon I will get to eat a safe version of Thin Mints!
