First of all, I have no idea why I begun reading this book - I don't even like Cassavetes! And the book didn't change my mind. Yes, I acknowledge his talent and influence, but that doesn't make his art meaningful to me personally and doesn't make me want to see all of his films. But this biography was great read, at least through a little over half of the book, after which going through his movies one by one, with the same trail of thought and similiar problems, became a little monotonous. Still, it catches the time of the big studios, glimpses of movie history from the inside - what making motion pictures could be at its best, and worst. And it goes to the very core of John Cassavetes as artist, at least that's what it feels like.… (mehr)
