Cannot beat lone pine for Canadian field guides such as these.

"Birds of Seattle and Puget Sound" by Chris Fisher is a good Northwest urban birding guide. It's slim with big drawings on full page entries. And since it's limited to western Washington, you don't get confused with birds that never show up here. A checklist of local birds is in the back if you want to keep your own score.
