It's somewhat bland at first but it does get a little better.
...If only all those familiar things didn't stand out so much. The whole time it felt like Bilbo, then there were some Frodo moments mixed in. Can't honestly say that it's bad.
The story is pretty interesting but execution leaves a lot to be desired.
Author's attitude towards kids is irritating. Yes, kids are young ... but they AREN'T stupid!

An interesting tale. And yet the next book I shall not read.
Too often have I found myself thinking "I'm not an idiot!" during this one. Maybe it's because I'm older, but I really doubt it. Kids hate to be thought of as inferior and they tend to carry a grudge towards those who do. Such is the case here. I understand the necessity of simple language, but the repetitiveness is exhausting and irritating.

At this rate the only way to finish things off is for Alex to die in the end. Ah well.
On that note, there's 4 bags to go. Hm. Not sure there's enough evil to go around if 1 bag= 1 book. He may as well turn out to be a god...
Same problems as previous books. Small improvement in writing style.
