I got this and another Forman book either for free or for very cheap. It was a fun diversion and I will read the other in the series, but I won't go out of my way to read another of the Boca Knight series. Not bad at all, just not my taste.

I have no idea what the point of this book was. The back cover says it takes place in Florida, but the first 70 pages are in Russia and Boston or Dorchester or hell it doesn’t matter. The writing is amateurish, and the story goes nowhere. His talking penis- you can’t make this shit up, added nothing either.

Set in south Florida this is a light, somewhat funny, story of Eddie, the Boca Knight, who goes around solving criminal mysteries. For a 61 year old, he has lots of energy and strength! Parts of the book seemed to be based on real south Florida current events: Bernie Madoff and his Ponzi scheme, the two Delray priests who embezzled money from their churches, and the pill mill raids.

There were funny lines. I could recognize the main character, Eddie, in so many of his lines. He is the new south Floridian!… (mehr)

"Fresh Meat" by Terrie Farley Moran for Criminal Element.

In October 2010 I was in San Francisco for Bouchercon, the annual four-day gala conference for mystery writers and fans. One night, amidst the crowds milling around the hotel atrium, I bumped into a man who was dapper, polite and funny. He introduced himself as mystery writer Steven M. Forman. We talked about all the writers’ angst we shared and told a few glory stories as well. We exchanged cards and a few months later I got a Facebook friend request from Steve and cheerfully accepted. If you are not Facebook friends with Steve Forman, you are missing the best one-line groaners ever!

So when I heard that the third book in Steve’s Boca Knights series, the aptly named Boca Daze, was soon to be released, I asked for an early peek and the chance to let you all know if Steve is as entertaining in thre- hundred plus pages as he is in one-liners on Facebook. The answer is an unequivocal YES.
